On June 24, 1910, a new company named A.L.F.A (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) was founded in Milan. It was Neapolitan entrepreneur Nicola Romeo who later took over and renamed the company Alfa Romeo.
That same year, Ugo Stella and Giuseppe Merosi, the company’s first chief engineer, signed an agreement to develop two cars, the 24 HP and the 12 HP, named for their respective horsepower. A pivotal moment in the Brand's history occurred in 1923 when Ugo Sivocci won the Targa Florio in an Alfa Romeo RL, marking the first of ten victories by the Brand in the prestigious Sicilian road race.
